Morden
Scattered, with cob or brick cottages and brick farmhouses. Opposite the church is a brick farmhouse whose lower storey is 18th century with a nice brick door surround. The church of St Mary has a thin tower and was totally rebuilt in 1873. It is odd because the style is that of the 1830’s or 1840’s when architects were far less serious about Gothic. This is very light-hearted, with heavy traceried wooden door, large clerestory and pretty tracery in the windows. Reset from the old church is the monument of Thomas Earle (1597), a large figure kneeling in over-sized bloomers looking as if he expects a present. He was once owner of Charborough Park.
