How will the new scheme work?

Purbeck residents have now received a new scheme of
weekly collections, known as Recycle for Purbeck. We collect
kerbside recyclables one week followed by the rubbish that cannot
be recycled the next week.
The Council was keen to introduce the recycling scheme to all
households in Purbeck and from October 2005 all households were
included.
All households have been issued with a green, 55 litre box for
the collection of their recyclables.
The majority of households have been provided with a wheeled
bin which should be used for any waste that cannot be
recycled. These two containers are emptied on alternate
weeks, and the pattern is as follows:
Week 1 - Green recycling box containing
recyclables
Week 2 - Wheeled bin containing residual waste (rubbish
that cannot be readily recycled)
Over 100 authorities in the UK are successfully operating an
alternate weekly collection system and are raising their recycling
rates. After learning from these successes other authorities
also plan to implement similar systems in the near future.
Before the scheme commenced residents received a comprehensive
leaflet explaining how the Recycle for Purbeck scheme
works. There is a helpline number for any queries (01929
