The Council provides a variety of grants and a
loan scheme related to housing. From April 2008 the following
will be offered:
1) Disabled
Facilities Grant
This grant (up to
£30,000) helps people who are disabled remain in their own
homes rather than enter into care. The works eligible for this
grant help people gain and improve access to their homes, following
an assessment by their occupational therapist. The grant is means
tested and in some cases the Council will put a charge on the
property so that if the property is sold or changes hands some of
the grant is repayable.
2) Landlords Empty Homes Grant
One of our main priorities is to
bring more affordable homes into use. Properties which
are currently empty can receive up to £10,000 grant to bring them
up to the Government's decent homes standard. Once completed, in
return, the Council will seek three year nomination rights for
people who are currently on our housing register
3) Interest
Free Equity Mortgage Scheme
The Council now offers a loan of up
to £10,000 for works and repairs towards meeting the decent
homes standard. The loan, referred to as an equity mortgage scheme,
has no interest payments and is only repayable upon sale of the
property or change of ownership. This loan is subject to a means
test.
4) Safe and Secure
Grant
A grant of up to £1000 for those
over 60 and on benefits to cover emergency repairs, to prevent
falls and trips in the home and for security measures.
5) Preliminary Services
Grant
This grant of up to £2,000 is for
those who may have incurred costs in the process of making an
application for a grant or loan but then for some reason the
application does not proceed.
6) Affordable Warmth
Grant
This grant is available
to people aged 60+ and in receipt of an income benefit, which
provides additional funding to 'top up' Warmfront grants for works
to improve the heating systems of property. In additon it also
provides help for those who would qualify for a Warmfront grant but
do not have children under 16 or who are under 60 or are not
disabled.
We also promote
a number of other schemes and grants related to energy efficiency
available in Purbeck. It is always worth checking with us to see if
there is a scheme or funding which you might be eligible for.

The builders we use are local and
the work is inspected whilst it is being carried out and at
completion. These are some of the comments we have
received.
"I
was so pleased with the conduct and workmanship of the builders
that I rang and thanked them personally"
"They were brilliant - a credit to the builders used by Purbeck
District Council"
