Landscape, Trees and Hedgerows

Purbeck is a very special place with a unique identity. The landscapes contribute greatly towards the character of the area. The natural vegetation that occurs in the landscape consists of plants that thrive in the local conditions, which can often be severe along the coast. Large areas of the landscape have been sculpted by activities that have been undertaken for centuries, such as quarrying for Purbeck Stone, and farming.

Landscape Requirements for Planning Applications

As set out in the District Local Plan, it is important to ensure that development proposals, other than minor or outline applications are accompanied by a detailed landscape scheme.
