Equality Impact Assessment

All Local Authorities are required to undertake an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) of new policy. This duty is set out in the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 under which all public authorities have a duty to:

  • Eliminate unlawful racial discrimination
  • Promote equality of opportunity
  • Promote good relations between people of different racial groups

This EQIA systematically assesses the effects of Purbeck District Council’s Core Strategy on different groups of people. It aims to raise concerns about discrimination at this early stage of Purbeck’s Local Development Framework process, and makes specific recommendations either for the document in question or for the next stage of the process.
