Upton Wood is situated on the eastern edge of Upton
near Upton Country Park, and is enclosed by the Upton By-pass and
Poole Road. The Wood was bought by Purbeck District Council in 2004
from the previous owners; The Llewellin Estate. The Estate which
contained the woodland and nearby Country Park, can be traced back
to the 17
th Century.
The woodland is very mixed and a small part of the site is
heathland. The site is managed for the quiet enjoyment of
residents and visitors to Upton, and also to protect and enhance
the site's wildlife value. For futher information,
the Management Plan (2008-2013) has recently been updated
and is available to download below.
A range of
improvements have just been completed including surfacing the main
paths for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooters, replacing
the main access points for easier access for mobility
scooters/wheelchairs, new seating and information panels, new
bridges and planting a wildlife friendly hedge.
A new leaflet has just been produced for
visitors to Upton Wood which can be downloaded below or picked up
from Upton Library, Upton Town Council Offices or Purbeck
Information and Heritage Centre in Wareham.
