Swanage and Herston Residents Invited To Join In Review of
Conservation Area
Residents of Swanage and Herston are invited to have
their say on their town and village as a designated conservation
area in the first phase of a review by the Council on conservation
areas throughout the district.
Conservation Areas are designated to cover the most
historically, architecturally important and interesting parts of
towns and villages and factors such as the quality of buildings,
the historic layout of roads, paths and boundaries and the
characteristic building and paving materials all contribute to the
special character of a conservation area.
The Council is reviewing all 24 conservation areas within
Purbeck on a parish by parish basis as part of its statutory duties
and as good practice to ensure the planning process is well
informed.
To kickstart the review a six week information
gathering exercise in Swanage and Herston will run between Monday
12 November and Friday 21 December during which all interested
parties are invited to contribute their views about their local
area and the current boundaries of the conservation area.
An information leaflet and questionnaire on
Swanage and Herston will be available from Swanage Library, the
District Council offices at Westport House, Wareham and online at
www.purbeck.gov.uk.
The feedback gathered will help to inform the
production of an appraisal document which will then be available
for further comment in January 2008.
Councillor John Hyde, Environment spokesperson
said: “Regularly reviewing our 24 conservation areas and their
boundaries is part of our positive commitment to preserving and
enhancing the quality of our natural environment and to ensuring
that all planning decisions are based on the most accurate and
up-to-date information. The Review gives everyone the chance to
contribute to how their local area should be designated and we
would urge the people of Swanage and Herston to lead the way and
come forward to have their say”.
