With the current cold weather spell upon
us Purbeck homeowners are being reminded that loft and wall
insulation is the best way to keep the heat in and save up to £265
in fuel bills per year in the process.
Up to 25% of heat is lost through the roofs of
houses and a further 35% is lost through the walls, resulting in
the average household wasting up to £265 per year on fuel that has
escaped from the home as a result of poor insulation.
In partnership with the Dorset Energy Advice
Centre (DEAC),Purbeck District Council provides advice and
information for people on home insulation and available grants.
Insulating a roof and the cavity walls can
half the amount of heat lost and the saving made on fuel bills over
two years can pay for the cost of installation. Through
DEAC all home owners or private tenants can get discounted
insulation and for those people receiving benefits, insulation may
be FREE.
Hannah Dike, the Energy
Efficiency Officer at Purbeck District Council said: “With
rising fuel bills and extreme weather conditions becoming a regular
occurrence, improving the energy efficiency of your home through
insulation is a practical and cost effective way of keeping the
heat in. With a range of grants available to everyone, and free
insulation for many people receiving benefits we would encourage
residents to take advantage of the help and support available.”
