Purbeck District Council launches its new 5-year vision for the district

Purbeck District Council has launched its new Corporate Strategy for 2009-2014, which updates the Council’s previous Strategy and sets out its corporate priorities for delivering its vision for the district.

From housing to improving the local economy, the Corporate Strategy explores the current and future issues the district faces and sets out six priorities to address issues that matter most to local people.

Leader of Purbeck District Council, Councillor Gary Suttle, said:  'Our vision for Purbeck is ‘thriving communities in balance with the natural environment’.  Through consultation, we have identified many changes that local people want to see over the next five years, such as more affordable houses for local people, community safety and local prosperity.  The strategy contains six corporate priorities to address the issues that matter most to the district.

“The strategy links the work of the District Council with the priorities of other organisations in the county, through the Dorset Strategic Partnership and the Community Plan for Purbeck, which will see joint initiatives and close working to make positive changes for everyone.”

Dorset Strategic Partnership -  The Dorset Strategic Partnership (DSP) was formally set up in 2002. It consists of a wide range of public, private, business, voluntary and community sectors who work together and support each other for the benefit of local people.  For more information about the Dorset Strategic Partnership, visit:  dorsetforyou.com

The Community Plan for Purbeck - The Local Government Act of 2000 places a duty on local authorities to prepare ‘Community Strategies’, or plans, for promoting or improving the economic, social and environmental well being of their areas.     The Community Plan for Purbeck is a reflection of what residents have told the council through consultation and is a living document that is both proactive and reactive to the changing priorities of its residents.
