Purbeck District Council has introduced a new policy to
deal with unauthorised developments in the district.
The new policy will help the Council to deal
with the control of unauthorised developments by making the process
more streamlined so that all those affected are treated fairly.
The new policy also aims to ensure that those
who come into contact with the planning enforcement system, ie the
public, parish and town councils and developers, know what they can
expect from it. It will also give guidance to councillors and
officials on where resources available for planning enforcement
should be focused.
Mark Sturgess, Head of Planning, said:
“Using the criteria detailed in the Enforcement policy, the council
will be able to carefully manage how it deals with cases so that
the planning system is not brought into disrepute”.
Councillor Peter Wharf, Chairman of Purbeck
District Council’s Planning Board, said: “The remote nature
of much of the district means enforcement action can be more
difficult to pursue than in compact urban areas. Therefore,
we frequently rely on parish and town councils to be our “eyes and
ears” to bring to our attention developments in their areas which
might require planning permission. This new policy should
help the council to more easily manage cases, respecting the need
protect the environment whilst allowing necessary development to
take place.”
This policy sets out how the Council will use
its planning enforcement powers to deal with development that is
allegedly commenced or constructed without planning
permission. It will also deal with developments
which have planning permission but are not constructed or operated
in accordance with that planning permission or are in breach of a
planning condition which has been attached to the planning
permission.
