Purbeck Building Projects
Awarded
The Building Control Team at Purbeck District Council
are celebrating after award success at the LABC South West Region
Built In Quality Awards, recently held in Torquay.
The Tank Museum in Bovington won the category
for the “Best Major Commercial Development in the South West” and
is the result of successful partnership working between the
Council, the Tank Museum and main contractor Norwest Holt.
Part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and designed by Kennedy
O’Callaghan Architects, the building extension was completed in
autumn last year and will be open to the public from 4 April
2009. The extension will provide a new display hall,
entrance facilities, shop and café and will make an impressive new
feature on the Purbeck landscape.
The Axium Centre, Lytchett Minster, received
Highly Commended in the “Best Small Commercial Building”
category. A privately-funded project, the buildings are
sympathetic to the surrounding area, reflecting the previous
agricultural use of the site. The buildings will house
freehold offices. The Council worked in partnership with
Banyard Developments, Banyard Construction and Trinity
Architecture.
Mark Sturgess, Head of Planning at Purbeck
District Council: “I am delighted that these projects have received
these awards. These buildings are a reflection of the
high quality development work taking place in Purbeck and the
positive relationships the authority aims to maintain with the
local building industry. Congratulations to everyone who took
part.”
The winners will now be nominated to go
forward to the national award finals to be held in October in
London.
