Purbeck Volunteers Honoured
Volunteers in Purbeck were
honoured for their outstanding
contribution to the community at a recent ceremony.
Chair of the Council, Councillor Mrs Gloria
Marsh, who hosted the ceremony, awarded certificates to the
volunteers in recognition of their work.
She said: “The volunteers of Purbeck are
at the heart of our parishes and towns. They often work
quietly behind the scenes, bringing whole communities together.
They freely give their time, energy and skills to help others
and I would like to thank them for their tireless efforts which
make a difference to the lives of so many people.”
All of the selfless helpers, who have given up
many hours of their own time to help others, were congratulated in
front of more than 60 people. Eleven parishes and towns
across the district nominated volunteers for a variety of
achievements:
The Stoborough Pantomime
Group – Arne Parish – The group has been
together for many years, bringing much joy and laughter to the
community and raising thousands of pounds for charity.
Mrs Kathleen Jeeves –
Bere Regis Parish – Tirelessly working for the
good of the community for over 30 years. At 87, Kath still
has bundles of enthusiasm arranging days out, leading a choir of
ladies and inspiring improvements to the village hall.
Mr Leslie Bugler –
Church Knowle Parish – Les has been a key member
of the community since childhood and has put many hours of hard
work into running the youth club and restoring the village Reading
Room. He has helped the village reach regular success in the
Best Kept Village competition.
Mr Paul Cady – East
Stoke Parish – Paul has spent over 20 years helping with
an array of activities to bring the community together including
fund raising, driving the Lions mini bus and helping out with
pensioners’ meals.
Mrs Lynne Ballard –
Lytchett Matravers Parish – Lynne has given
immense support to the Lytchett Matravers Youth Football Club and
has enabled children from all over Dorset play in the Lytchett Red
Triangle YFC. She also arranges parties, litter days and fund
raising events, on top of holding down a full time job.
Mrs Maureen Young –
Lytchett Minster and Upton Town – Maureen has
tirelessly worked with the First Lytchett Scout Group for over 30
years. Maureen has played a great part in the success of the
Clarion, the local community magazine.
Mrs Doreen White –
Studland Parish – Doreen has been central to the
parish’s activities for over 40 years. From organising the
church flower arranging group, leading the Studland Art Group to
raising funds for the British Heart Foundation, she has made the
parish a place of pride for residents and visitors alike.
Mrs Pauline Dorland and Mr Terry
Dorland – Swanage Town – Mother and son,
Pauline and Terry have devoted their time to the Swanage Stroke
Club, organising events, transporting members and arranging outings
for people who would otherwise not be able to take part in
activities.
Roy and Nancy Anderson –
Wareham Town – Together, Roy and Nancy tirelessly
gave much of their time to volunteer work in Wareham over the
several decades, often behind the scenes.
Mrs Peggy Worboys –
West Lulworth Parish – Peggy will help anyone in
the community. From cleaning the church and visiting the
elderly to preparing food for church services and taking the
elderly on shopping trips.
Glen and Betty Bower –
Worth Matravers Parish – Glen and Betty have been
involved in a variety of parish activities for over 50 years and
still run a monthly dance, the proceeds of which are donated to
charity and to the building fund for the new village hall.
