Purbeck Residents Recycling over 33%
The “Recycle for
Purbeck” refuse and recycling collection scheme is going from
strength to strength, with Purbeck residents recycling over 33% of
their household waste during the last year (April 2007 to March
2008).
Now into its fourth year, the scheme has
enabled recycling to more than double from the 16% achieved in
2004/5.
Residents also continue to reduce the amount
of waste they produce that goes to landfill. It is hoped that
Purbeck will be at the top of the league tables again this year for
the least amount of waste produced per head of population - in
2006/7 Purbeck came second in the UK
Cllr Paul Johns, Built Environment Spokesperson, said:
“The residents of Purbeck are very committed to recycling and this
is borne out by the continued increase in recycling figures. I'd
like to thank everyone who has helped with the District’s waste and
recycling performance. Their efforts have helped keep Purbeck on
track and to more than meet the government's recycling targets.
Improvements to the service over the last 12 months have
included the installation of five food and drink carton recycling
banks at the Upton Oil Site, Blandford Road, Upton; Turberville Car
Park, Bere Regis; The D’Urberville Hall Site, Colliers Lane,
Wool; North Beach Car Park, De Moulham Road, Swanage and the
Council’s Offices at Westport House, Worgret Road, Wareham. A
new recycling site at Wareham Sports Centre for plastic bottles
has also been installed (with paper recycling to arrive soon!).
