Gym members reduce their waste at Purbeck Sports Centre

Purbeck Gym

Members of the new gym at Purbeck Sports Centre are each being given a water bottle to help reduce waste

Previously, members could help themselves to endless paper cups of drinking water, which created huge amounts of waste each day.  Members will now be able to help themselves to plenty of refreshing cold water, but in their own container.

Not only could the new initiative save the Sports Centre lots of money but this is also good news for the environment.

Purbeck Sports Centre Operations Manager, Michelle Goodman, said of the new scheme “Over the last few years, we have made a conscious effort to become much more sustainable.  This new initiative not only saves on waste and money, but also reminds visitors and residents to think about how they can reduce their waste at home.”

Purbeck District Council’s Sports and Recreation Adviser, Councillor Mike Pratt, said:  “I applaud this new initiative, it’s a great way to reduce your waste while getting fit, which is good news for the environment as well as the health of the community.”
