Upton Heath Estate Set For
Regeneration
Local residents are being invited to have their say on
the proposed regeneration of the Upton Heath Estate, Upton Woods
and the nearby roads, footpaths and cycleways.
The project is being developed by the Purbeck
Housing Trust, Upton Heath Residents’ Association and Purbeck
District Council and aims to improve the green open space in the
Upton Heath Estate area with enhanced or new leisure facilities,
improved cycling and walking routes and better and safer playing
areas.
It is hoped the regeneration will help reduce
crime and disorder and encourage fun, enjoyment and healthier
lifestyles by local residents as well as help reduce any
detrimental impact of recreational activity on the Upton Heath.
Two public drop-in events have been organised
by the Purbeck Housing Trust to enable local residents to find out
more about the proposals and put forward any suggestions or ideas
they might have. The events are taking place on Thursday 11 October
1pm-4pm in the Scout Hut and Saturday 13 October 10.00am - 2pm at
LUCA Community Centre and everyone is welcome.
Robin James, Managing Director of Purbeck
Housing Trust, said: “This partnership initiative is an opportunity
to make a real difference to the quality of life of people, young
and old, living in the north eastern part of Upton.”
Simon Williams, Chair of Upton Heath Residents
Association added: “We hope residents will share their views about
what improvements they would like to see by coming along to one of
the consultation events”.
Councillor John Hyde, Environment spokesperson
for Purbeck District Council said: “We are delighted to be
supporting this partnership initiative which, as well as enhancing
the quality of life for Purbeck residents, will also help protect
and enhance the district’s natural environment “.
