Registered Parks & Gardens

The Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England is compiled and maintained by English Heritage under the National Heritage Act 1983. Entries are graded in the same way as listed buildings. Unlike listed buildings however there is no provision for statutory protection, partly due to the organic and changeable nature of gardens. Planning Policy Guidance 15 (DoE 1990) instructs Planning Authorities to ‘protect’ registered sites in determining planning applications which either affects them directly or their setting. All development proposals relating to Grade I and II* gardens must be referred to English Heritage.

Lulworth Castle

·        Charborough Park II*

·        Creech Grange II*

·        Encombe II*

·        Lulworth Castle II
