What is anti-social behaviour?

Anti-social behaviour is  “……acting in a manner that caused or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more people not of the same household”, and “…..behaviour that unreasonably interferes with other people’s rights to use their home and community”.

Surveys have shown that the issue of anti-social  behaviour is an area of high concern for residents of Purbeck.  Although the majority of anti-social behaviour within the District can be classed as low-level nuisance, the Council recognises the significant impact anti-social behaviour can have on communities and takes a proactive approach to this problem area. An Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction Officer, whose key role is to to prevent and reduce anti-social behaviour and fear of crime, is employed full-time by the Council, working in partnership with many local organisations.

The usual types of anti-social behaviour the Council investigates are:-

  • vandalism
  • graffiti
  • alcohol misuse
  • drugs misuse
  • neighbour disputes
  • intimidation & harassment
  • youth nuisance
  • vehicle nuisance
