The
Northport Greenway has been created in joint partnership between
Greenlink, Dorset County Council, Tomorrow’s Heathland Heritage,
The Forestry Commission and Purbeck Heritage.
The Northport
Greenway
This route runs for just over 1.5
miles and provides a safe cycling or walking route from Wareham
Quay, through the quiet streets of the town, past the railway
station, through Northmoor Park and onto Wareham Forest, where it
then links with the Sika Trail. The route is waymarked with a
G symbol and Dorset County Council have improved parts of the route
by installing lighting, signage and crossings. The leaflet can be
downloaded below (the Sika Cycle Trail map is found on the back of
the Northport Greenway leaflet).
The Sika
Trail
A circular walking route around
Wareham Forest of 3 1/4 miles - shorter routes can be
taken. Download the Wareham Forest Way leaflet
below for the route. The Northport
Greenway (above) links to the Sika Trail at it's southern
entrance. The Sika Trail walking route can also be accessed
from the walkers car park off the Wareham to Bere Regis road.
NB: The Forestry Commission will be carrying out
tree work within Wareham Forest between December 2008 and summer
2009. Diversions may be put in place to avoid these work areas.
