Westport House, Worgret
Road
The District Council’s main office car park has a limited
amount of public car parking and is free during business hours and
at other times when meetings are being held.
Westport House car park may also be open for public car parking for
one-off events, and charges may apply on these occasions. Pay
and display tickets should be purchased from the Streche Road
parking place opposite. The charge for parking at Westport
House will be the same as the charge for Streche Road.
Paying for parking
Payment must be made and a parking ticket obtained immediately
on arrival in a parking place.
The ticket machines do not give change, but accept 5p, 10p, 20p,
50p and £1.00 coins.
If a vehicle is parked without a valid parking ticket whilst
changing money for the ticket machine, the driver will be running
the risk of incurring a penalty charge notice.
Transfer of parking tickets
Parking tickets are only valid for the car park where the
ticket is purchased. Parking tickets are not transferable
between car parks, nor are they transferable to other
vehicles. It is an offence to give a parking ticket to another
person to use up unexpired parking time.
“Disabled” Blue Badge holders
Disabled” Blue Badge holders may park free of charge for up to
3 hours in all of the District Council’s pay and display car parks,
provided the badge is displayed in a prominent position in the
front windscreen and the clock has been set correctly.
Motor cycle parking
Charges apply to motor cycles and are the same as the charges
for cars. Motor cycles should be parked in the designated
parking spaces (where available) or unused car parking spaces.
Motorcyclists are advised to tear their parking ticket in half,
sticking one half on their motor cycle and taking the other half
with them. They should then be able to prove the purchase of a
parking ticket if the part of the ticket stuck on the motor cycle
becomes detached or is removed.
Residents’ car parking
permits
A small number of annual car parking permits for reserved and
unreserved parking are available. Permits are allocated to
residents whose sole or main home is within the district (as
defined for Council Tax purposes). Additionally, the Head of
Revenues and Social Support Services is authorised to exceptionally
allocate permits on appropriate terms for parking spaces that would
otherwise be vacant.
A reserved parking permit ensures a space is provided at all
times and may have a lockable bollard fitted to prevent it being
used by other people.
An unreserved parking permit allows the permit holder to park
in all available parking spaces in the designated car park, but
does not guarantee the use of a particular space or the use of any
space at all times. In the busiest times it is possible no
space is available and permit holders would have to park elsewhere
at their own expense.
Unreserved parking permits are not transferable to other parking
places.
In recognition of the extra parking charges that unreserved
permit holders could potentially incur, a discount of approximately
25% is allowed (as compared to the price of a reserved parking
permit).

Waiting list for annual permits
There are times when waiting lists exist for reserved
parking permits and spaces are allocated strictly on a first
come first serve basis. New applicants can
normally expect to wait for one year or longer before being offered
a reserved parking permit.
Unreserved parking permit can normally be issued
immediately.
