There is a large network of footpaths and bridleways throughout
Purbeck and many of our promoted walks use this network.
Footpaths are waymarked with either
yellow arrows or a yellow person walking. Footpaths are to be
used by pedestrians only.
Bridleways are waymarked with blue arrows or a
blue horse and rider. Bridleways can be used by pedestrians,
horse riders and cyclists.
Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs) are
waymarked with red arrows and can be used by pedestrians, horse
riders, cyclists and vehicles. There are only two small sections in
Purbeck which are classified as BOATs.

If you would like to know more about public right of way routes
or signage visit the Dorset For

If you are planning to use a public right of way during an
organised event such as a sponsored walk or bike ride, it is
advisable to contact Dorset County Council and/or landowner in the
first instance so they are aware of your plans.
All work relating to public rights of way which includes footpaths
and bridleways is the responsibility of Dorset County Council. If
you have any queries relating to maintenance, temporary closure or
misuse of paths or if you would like to apply to divert or close a
Right of Way, please contact Dorset County Council Rights of Way
Team on 01305 221219.
